SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY: Staying positive

Hey guys!

Considering my last Spotlight Sunday was about starting over and letting go I thought it would be nice to share my tips on staying positive with you.

So my first tip would be to surround yourself with things that make you smile.
I have a mini stuffed Olaf on my desk, next to my computer monitor. I fell in love with Olaf the first time I saw Frozen and I've been obsessed with him ever since. I think he's one of the greatest characters ever created by Disney and we should all try to be a bit more Olaf-y. He's positive, adventurous and always willing to help others and stand up for the people he loves most. I literally giggle every time I think of him singing about summer, so buying the stuffed version of him brought me a lot of joy. I also have the big one that I cuddle with at night.

Do things that make you happy.
It's one thing to think positive, but actually doing things that bring a smile on your face can make a huge difference without you even noticing. Read your favorite book all over, go for a walk with your dog, make a cup of tea and watch 3rd Rock from the Sun all over again. Like reading blogs? Think about starting your own! I've been 50times more happy since I started blogging and I can't imagine stopping. Feel better with makeup on? Do some crazy makeup and go grocery shopping just to freak people out! Or just do some regular makeup. Go to the gym or out for a run! Do whatever brings you even the tiniest bit of joy and smiling will somehow become something that comes naturally and not something that you have to force.

Let go of the things/people that bring you down.
We all have something or someone in our lives that make us frown even if we just think about it/them. I know that sometimes it's impossible to completely cut that out of our lives - maybe you don't get along with a coworker or it's your job that you don't particularly love. But even if you can't get that thing out of your life completely, just dealing with it in a more positive way can make your day so much better. Instead of thinking about how much that coworker gets on your nerves make sure you give your best every day at work and focus on the people that make you feel better. If you hate your job, think about that book/movie/special someone that's waiting for you at home and time will fly by much faster. Or maybe start working on getting your dream job - it's never really too late, you know?

Don't let people bring you down.
If someone tries to tell you you're not good enough, you're not pretty enough or that you'll never make it - just shake it off! If something makes you happy then no one can take that away from you. You can do whatever you set your mind to and if along the way someone tells you that you can't - well then you can just be that much prouder of yourself when you really do make it!

I've never believed in looking in the mirror and saying ''yes I can!'' a gazillion times because it personally only made me feel awkward and never motivated me. I know most people aren't even able to do it. So I find that simply surrounding yourself with things that make you smile and doing things you genuinely enjoy can help much more.
Blast your favorite music and jump around in your underwear.
Do Halloween makeup in the middle of June.
Pretend you know the words to Gangnam Style.
Have a dance party with your pets.
Religious? Join the church choir and belt out every single line like it's your last!
Add some temporary pink color to your hair.
Do whatever the f*** you want as long as it makes you happy (and doesn't harm anyone/anything else).
But most importantly - never let anyone tell you that you don't deserve to smile. Every single person deserves happiness and in joy in their life.
It took me a very long time to stop actively bringing myself down with negativity, but once I stopped and turned my thoughts around, my life is much better and the little things don't hurt as much.

It's doesn't happen over night, but once you get there, you'll be happier than you thought you'd ever be ;)
