SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY: I'm a Morning Person????

Hey guys!!

Here's little dialog between me and my mom, on a Sunday morning.

MOM: what are you doing up so early?
ME: I set my alarm.
MOM: why?
ME: I don't want to waste the entire day sleeping.

Now, if someone told me a couple of months ago, that I would be saying those words, I would have told them to get some help.
I can easily sleep from 10pm to 11am, but lately I've been getting up early - voluntarily!!!

WHO AM I?????

But all joking aside (not really), I've actually started feeling the need to get up in the morning and I've been motivated to do stuff. This is big news for someone who during their lowest times, spent entire days in bed (but that's a story for another post).

Here's what I did to get to where I am now!

1. Go to bed earlier!
For me, this was the hardest part. I'm very guilty of scrolling through 9gag or staring at the TV, until my eyes give out. But the changes I applied actually make me look forward to my evening routine.
Basically, one hour before I go to bed (the time varies, depending on my work schedule) I turn off my computer, put my phone on silent and make a cup of tea. I recently bought a Kindle, witch was one of my best purchases!! So for an hour I sip my pure green tea and read. Not seeing those flashing adds that you do on your computer makes me really focus on the book and unwind.

2. Sleep Cycle
Definitely worth the 1,49€ I spent on this app. It tracks your sleep and wakes you up during a 30min time period, that ends when your alarm is set (If your alarm is set at 7am, it'll wake you up between 6:30 and 7) and because it tracks your sleep it always wakes you up in the lightest phase, so you wake up easily. I honestly thought it was total c**p when I first used it, but after a couple of weeks, I actually noticed how much easier waking up is.

3. Music!
Blast your favorite music! If you get up before other people in your household, then you should definitely use headphones, but nonetheless - find you favorite up-beat songs and dance through the morning (brushing your teeth, making breakfast, getting dressed will suddenly become fun).

My current favorites:
James Blunt - Heart to Heart / Bonfire Heart / Bones / I'll Be Your Man/ Telephone
Olly Murs - Never Been Better / Did You Miss Me? / Wrapped Up / Up (ft. Demi Lovato)
RuPaul - Sissy That Walk! (It's impossible to have a bad day, if you start it with this song!)
Demi Lovato - Really Don't Care
Taylor Swift - Shake It Off / Blank Space / Welcome To New York / How You Get The Girl
Create a playlist on your phone and get movin'!

Also - Tea! This is what I look forward to the most each morning. Making a cup of English Breakfast of Earl Grey tea.

4. Breakfast!
Now this particular one may not look especially appetizing, however it's my absolute favorite.
Porridge with a banana and some honey (1cup oats, 2 cups of milk - just cook it while stirring).
I have gotten to the point where I set my alarm half an hour earlier, because not eating breakfast is simply not an option. I've been feeling much more energized, I'm not craving junk food as much and I generally eat less throughout the day.
You can also try this one!

5. Move!
Look at that sleeping beauty!! That's my dog Lina and she's the thing that forces me to move in the morning - she has to pee! So I always take her for a short walk (seriously, anything above 10min is too much for this lazy potato), which means that one of the first things I do in the morning is going out and getting some fresh air.
I also prefer going to the gym in the morning. I've made it my monthly goal to go to the gym twice a week and since my mom works in that area, I get up at 6am so she can drive me. It works perfectly because it get's my body and metabolism moving, it wakes me up and by the time I get home I still have the whole day ahead of me.
I also love using the 7 minute workout app - it's exactly that, a 7 minute workout and the app tells you what exercises to do. I love the Johnson & Johnson one, because you can like or dislike exercises and based on your data they create a smart workout that specifically fits your needs and preferences :)

If you made it to the end of this long-a** post then leave a comment ;)
I really hope you guys found this helpful, it really changed the way I feel throughout the day - there's nothing like realizing that, by the time you would have dragged yourself out of bed one month ago, you already did a bunch of productive stuff!
